Information About Swansea

Swansea is a coastal city and county in Wales. Swansea is in the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. Situated on the sandy South West Wales coast, the county area includes the Gower Peninsula. Swansea is the second most populous city in Wales after Cardiff and the third most populous county in Wales after Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
During its 19th century industrial heyday, Swansea was one of the key centres of the world copper industry,[1] earning the nickname 'Copperopolis'
Famous for its striking landscape, Swansea is alternately rugged and bare or rolling and wooded. The city sits at the mouth of the Gower Peninsula, the first area of the United Kingdom to be named an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty."
The city is also celebrated as the home of poet Dylan Thomas and actress Catherine Zeta Jones. As a coastal town and Wales' second-largest city, Swansea has a rich sea-faring history that's preserved today in the charming Old Maritime Quarter. Vacationers first discovered the region some 300 years ago and have been coming back ever since; the economy is still driven by tourism. Popular destinations in the vicinity are the ruins of Swansea Castle, the Swansea Maritime Museum, and Mumbles, a former fishing village turned resort. The spectacular Gower terrain also attracts legions of nature enthusiasts and photographers.
